How to set up SMTP Authentication in Outlook Express

I am getting some errors when sending email in Outlook Express.

If you get one of the following errors when trying to send email, then this tutorial is for you.

554.5.7.1.
Server Respose 554.5.7.1
Error number 0x800ccc78

These error messages mean that you are supposed to have set up smtp authentication when sending emails but you probably missed that step when setting up your account.

Complete the following steps to configure SMTP authentication in Outlook Express.

1.
From the Tools menu, click Accounts

2.
From the Mail tab, select the Cox account, then click the Properties button.

3. From the Servers tab, under Outgoing Mail Server, check the My server requires authentication box, then click theSettings button.

4.
Select the Log on using radio button and enter your Account name (usually email address) and Password.
